Key Stage 3
During year 7 we examine a number of issues including The Battle of Hastings and developments in Wales and Britain between 1000 and 1500.
Year 8 pupils study change and conflict in Wales and Britain between 1500-1760 including the Tudors and Stuart periods.
Year 9 students study the changes which took place in Wales, Britain and the wider world between 1760 and 2000. Students undertake a depth study of the First World War.
Key Stage 4
History is a very popular option at key stage four. We follow the WJEC Modern History course with a particular focus on the USA, Germany and South Africa. Our Controlled Assessment focuses on the First World War or Second World War. Our results at GCSE are consistently above local and national averages.
Key Stage 5
History is a popular option at key stage five. The groups are taught by two teachers who specialise in their subjects. We study Weimar Republic and Nazi Germany, developments during the Tudor period and Social Reform between 1890 and 1990. The department is dedicated to ensuring the pupils achieve the grades they need in order to progress to University.
History is available through the medium of Welsh up to, and including, GCSE. Our Welsh medium courses are taught by three first language History teachers.
