With excellent facilities, experienced staff, strong technical support and a wide range of courses and pathways offered, the ICT department plays an important role within Llanfyllin High School.
Key Stage 3
In Key Stage 3 all students receive one discrete ICT lesson per week. The course content is stored electronically and covers the requirements of the National Curriculum.
Key Stage 4
ICT is an optional subject at this Key Stage, with the Cambridge National Level 2 ICT course being offered. This course covers all the major aspects of ICT and is very practical in its approach. The course content is stored electronically and accessible to students both within and outside school time.
Key Stage 5
Two courses are offered at this Key Stage. WJEC Computer Science is offered at AS and A Level and Cambridge Technical Level 3 ICT is also offered. The course content for both of these courses is stored electronically and accessible to students both within and outside school time.
Welsh Medium Provision
ICT is taught through the medium of Welsh to all Welsh medium groups in Key Stage 3. ICT and Computer Science through the medium of Welsh is currently not available.
The department is very proud of its achievements, always achieving very well when using both local and national measures of performance.
The ICT Department has 4 ICT suites (refurbished with new equipment in 2017). Three suites have approximately 30 networked PC's, one suite is equipped with 60 networked PC’s. Each suite has electronic whiteboard facilities and both black and white and colour printing facilities.
On entry to the school, each student is given a personal ID, which gives them access to their own secure network storage area, an Office 365 account with cloud storage and the ability to download Microsoft Office for use at home, free of charge. Students are also given printing credit which is topped up termly.
